The Mediterranean sea and the Straits of GibraltarLittle-known diving sitesThe Terre Azur diving center was founded to introduce divers to the Moroccan coasts : the Straits of Gibraltar or the western Mediterranean. The Acqua Star's navigation zone is used very infrequently by other vessels. You will probably see only a few fishermen's boats. Terre Azur is one of the rare diving centers in Morocco. Under water, there is no danger of encountering other groups of divers.
A protected Mediterranean
On the western Mediterranean side, the weather and sea conditions are often mild. The current is weak (if not null) and the seabed slopes not sharp, so the dives are more dry rockpiles and scree on a sandy bottom. These sites are teeming with an astonishing wealth of nature. For try dives and diving training we usually sail to one of our numerous sites near Cabo Negro. Some of these sites are "artificial pools". Protected diving sitesThe exceptional walls and slopes of the Straits of Gibraltar benefit from a unique natural phenomenon: the Atlantic Ocean empties on the surface into the Mediterranean Sea, creating a permanent current that protects and nourishes the flora. The vertical nature of these slopes protects the coast from over-fishing. Fish are therefore abundant in this zone, as are all manner of large marine mammals. The features that endow the Straits with natural beauty can also prove a difficulty and some dives are suitable for experienced divers only. |
